Protecting PMUA Frontline Workers: A Clarification

I want to clarify my proposal to reintegrate the PMUA into the City as it concerns the PMUA's frontline workers.

Who are these frontline workers? They are those who work the trucks, clean the shopping districts, run the Transfer Station and process payments.

Here is what I said:

PMUA Executive Director Eric Watson says he laid off 20 of 170 employees, 1 of every 8. These workers had no say in the matter and no union to protect them.

Mr. Watson froze salaries and demanded unpaid furloughs. The workers had no say in the matter and no union to protect them.

Under my plan, frontline PMUA workers would immediately be better off since they would enjoy the protection of the union and would not be subjected to arbitrary layoffs, salary freezes and mandatory furloughs by the PMUA 's Executive Director.

The money saved by eliminating the high-paid executives would be used to make sure the frontline workers won't be sacrificed for the big cats' big salaries.

I would make sure frontline workers are represented on the citizen committee I will appoint to plan the reintegration of the PMUA into the city.

I am dedicated to protecting the interests of Plainfield's taxpayers and the welfare of the frontline employees of the PMUA.

There has been a lot of interest in my proposal, and I will take up some other comments and questions in future posts.
